DevOps Engineer – 6 Month Outside IR35 Contract

2 days a week on site in Manchester

Are you a DevOps Engineer looking for your next exciting contract? We’re offering a 6-month Outside IR35 opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies and enable teams to build and release software efficiently, securely, and at speed.

What You’ll Be Doing:

As a key part of the Enabling Team, you will collaborate with five development teams, each responsible for different applications, to introduce and improve the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC). Since there is currently no SDLC in place, your role will involve understanding existing manual processes, documenting them, and agreeing on actions needed to improve maturity. You will work with each team in a priority order agreed upon with them.

While CI/CD pipelines are on the cards for the future, we need to start with the basics and as such need a person that can take the business from an immature state to a best in class function. Your work will focus on defining and documenting SDLC processes, ensuring that existing release processes are well-documented, and introducing automation to reduce quality issues and deployment risks.

Key Deliverables:

  • Define and document SDLC processes and environment configurations across teams.
  • Standardise and implement source code management tools to enhance consistency.
  • Introduce observability, monitoring, and alerting to improve system reliability.
  • Work towards automating build and release processes, starting with documentation and incremental improvements.
  • Ensure that individuals responsible for release processes have well-documented workflows and support automation efforts to reduce risk.
  • Develop and maintain a backlog of continuous improvement initiatives that align with business priorities.
  • Investigate tracking options to improve work visibility, ensuring alignment with the wider group’s tools and processes.
  • Work within existing infrastructure constraints, acknowledging that applications run on physical hardware in a data center with no current plans to move to the cloud.
  • Utilise Monday.com for work tracking, exploring ways to link work items to code changes and releases.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Strong experience in DevOps for SaaS Platforms / low-code solutions.
  • Proven track record in implementing and standardising SDLC across multiple teams.
  • Expertise in CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and release management (even though this is aspirational, knowledge is key to setting a future path).
  • Deep understanding of observability, monitoring, and application performance.
  • Strong skills in technical documentation, problem-solving, and communication.
  • An Agile mindset, with experience working in Agile development environments.
  • Experience in assessing manual workflows and implementing process improvements.

This is an opportunity to play a pivotal role in establishing fundamental DevOps practices and helping teams mature their development processes. If you have a passion for enabling teams and driving improvements in SDLC, we want to hear from you!
